Why Should I Meditate?
Meditation has been around for thousands of years. It's been shown scientifically to heal the body and mind. In our busy, on-the-go lives, meditation can be the answer to feelings of stress, anxiety and burnout. Taking even one minute to cease our constant stream of thoughts can result in physical, mental and emotional benefits.
Benefits include decreased cortisol production, improved focus and cognitive function, improved sleep quality, and greater connection with others.
There are two basic forms of meditation passive and active. Passive meditation includes emptying our mind completely of thoughts and awareness. Active meditation encourages us to focus our awareness on an item, thought, feeling, or visualization.
It's important to find meditation styles that meet our needs and interests. For some people, sitting still for five minutes seems impossible. There are other ways that we can meditate and reap the benefits of this healing practice.
