Workout Spring Cleaning

Spring is the time to clean and refresh. This doesn't have to be limited to our household closets. At times, even the most motivated exercisers can feel stagnant in their routines. Here are some ideas on how to add variety to your workout regime.




Try a new class

Group fitness classes have recently gained a new level of popularity. Instructors are selected for being knowledgeable, fun, and motivating! You can choose from cycle, dance, step, TRX and more.




Take your workout outdoors

Escape the stuffiness and smells of the gym and breathe that fresh spring air! Parks, trails, and nature preserves are great places to get moving.



Bring a friend

Great satisfaction comes from sharing with others. Plus, you never know what you might spark in someone else. Having an accountabili-buddy can make your workouts more fun and keep you on course.




Take your dog for a hike

Speaking of great companions, your dog is the best you can find. You will get exercise and your dog will be grateful for the adventure. Dogs tend to lose the strength in their back legs as they age so taking them on a hike will greatly improve their quality of life.



Try HIIT

There's something to be said about steady-state cardio. Put on some tunes or a podcast and zone out. Yet, there are a lot of benefits to high-intensity interval training. HIIT workouts stimulate EPOC, a physiological effect called excess post-exercise oxygen consumption. You can think of this as oxygen debt. This is the amount of oxygen required to restore you body to normal resting level. In short, EPOC means you will burn calories long after you finish your workout.


Incorporate New Equipment

Try integrating different equipment into your regime. Ropes, resistance bands, kettlebells, stability balls, medicines balls, pilates balls, boxes, BOSU, or TRX! Not sure how to use a piece of equipment? Ask the trainer at the gym. They'll be happy to help!
